Alain LeRoy Locke  (1886 – 1954)

     
The great- great grandson of Annaminta Daffin and great- grandson of Harriet Daffin (of Maryland) and Charles Shorter, Alain LeRoy Locke, after graduating High School, entered Harvard University and completed his 4 year degree in 3 years! He was named a Rhodes Scholar in 1907 and he studied at Oxford University from 1907 to 1910, Hertford College,  and the University of Berlin from 1910 to 1911. He received the Ph.D. degree in 1918 from Harvard in Philosophy. His teaching career started at Howard University in 1912 and lasted 41 years
