First Generation

1. Ed Daffin.1 Born abt 1861 in Georgia.1

Ed first married Unknown1.

They had the following children:

2 i. Otis (ca1889-1958)

3 ii. Sibber/Libber/Lissa? (ca1891-)

About 1900 when Ed was 39, he second married Mary Unknown1. Born ca 1875 in Georgia.1

Ed Daffin was born about 1861 in Georgia.1 Both his parents had been born in Virginia.1 His occupation was farming.1
In 1910 he was married to Mary, but I believe that it would have been Ed's second or later marriage. In the census they state they are married for 10 years and she ststes to having given birth to one child no longer living. Ed already has a son, Otis and a daughter, "Lissa" living with them.1
Whether, Ed Daffin had been born into slavery, I do not know, but there was a slave owning family in Bainbridge, Ga. in 1860.2 John Daffin, of Bainbridge, owned 3 slaves. It is possible Ed was born here to one of them. In the Slave Schedule the slaves were listed as 1 Male age 33 (born ca. 1827), 1 Female age 30 (born ca. 1830), and 1 Male age 9 (born ca. 1851).2 John Daffin is listed as the Census Taker for Bainbridge3
Also living with Ed Daffin and his family are two nephews, John Britt and Cato (?) Wilson/Wilmore (?...difficult to read the handwriting!) a niece, Rosa Daffin and a grandson, Willy Daffin. I assume that Ed Daffin has a brother (maybe the 9 year old from the 1860 Slave Schedule).
An interesting find is a family, also in Bainbridge, Georgia in 1910 headed by Madison Bates (born ca. 1845, Virginia)1 and his wife Louisa (born ca. 1846, Virginia)1. They have a daughter, Ellie (born ca. 1880, Virginia)1 and two granddaughters, Viola Britt (born ca 1894, Florida) and Edna Daffin (born circa 1894, Georgia). The census shows Viola's father born in Florida and her mother born in Georgia.1 Edna Daffin's parents are both shown as being born in Georgia.1
