Ed Daffin

of
Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia

Ed Daffin was born about 1861 in Georgia. His parents were born in Virginia and most likely he was born into slavery. He was living in the area of Bainbridge, Decatur, Georgia and there was a white Daffin family also living here, so I imagine there is a connection between the two families. Although I have not found them, Ed Daffin must have had brothers and sisters as there are references to grandchildren and nephews with different surnames in my records. I have found other African American Daffins shortly after the Civil War living in Texas and Florida that have their roots in Georgia, so further research may find family ties.
I first found Ed's son, Otis Daffin on another website which is well worth looking at. There are many photographs and this family explored their ancestors' slave history as well as finding and meeting the descendants of their ancestors' slave owners, who also share the same surname. It also tells of their search for their African ancestry through todays DNA testing which can trace ancestral connections as well as find what areas of the world they most likely originated from.
